Arkansas Center for Black Music to Present Celebration Concert Aug. 1
The Arkansas Center for Black Music at the University of Arkansas presents “The Finale” on August 1st at 7pm at the Meteor Guitar Gallery in Bentonville. Well-known guest artists and students from the Master of Music in Black Sacred Music program will present a celebration of the country’s only graduate program in Black Sacred Music. The event features Music Moves as a community partner and the Arkansas Gospel Chorale as the supporting community choir.
Rogers revenue office set to reopen in August
The Arkansas state revenue office in Rogers has faced prolonged disruptions due to storm damage. After the storms, significant roof damage occurred when air conditioning units were blown across and off the roof, creating large holes in the ceiling and causing water damage. The office was left without utilities, and the county installed a temporary roof and replaced the air conditioning units and damaged glass. Furthermore, employees had to be reassigned to other locations to help manage the workload.
Quorum court approves courthouse repair funds
OSCEOLA, Ark. (KAIT) - Mississippi County held a quorum court meeting on Tuesday, July 23 at 6 p.m. The main topic was repairs to the interior of the Osceola courthouse. About $3 million has already been used to repair the exterior of the building but now the attention shifts to the inside of the building which desperately needs repairs to the electrical, heat and cooling systems and other maintenance.
Hot Springs Sister City Program Awarded for Innovation
The Sister City program in Hot Springs is one of the best in the state. It hosts cultural events and yearly delegate trips. Now, the over 30-year relationship has paid off, as the Hot Springs Sister City program won the Sister Cities International 2024 Annual Award for Innovation in Business, Trade and Professional Exchange for a city with a population of 25,001-100,000.
Arkansas student raises money for disability awareness by biking across the country
A University of Arkansas - Fort Smith student is biking more than 4,000 miles to raise funds and awareness for individuals with physical and mental disabilities.
Pedal it Forward to shift operation in new Jones Center location
Betty Morris is volunteering on a rainy Wednesday morning at Pedal It Forward’s new bike shop at the Jones Center in Springdale– as she does three times a week. Right now, she’s teaching a newer volunteer how to repair a bicycle. Morris has been a volunteer with Pedal It Forward for a few years now but previously spent a lot of time at their Bentonville shop. She said volunteering in Springdale is easier for her.

HDC grants pillar removal and garage demolition
The Historic District Commission had postponed a decision on two projects at its July 3 meeting. Last week, the HDC approved both those projects. At 42 Prospect Ave., Keith Scales and Rebecca Becker had asked to remove failing stone pillars on the front porch. Scales proposed replacing them with tapered wooden columns, in keeping with the Craftsman style of the house. Commissioners said the house had an overall Victorian style, with round columns on the other faces of the house. They also had serious concerns about losing the property’s contributing status.
Petition circulating to eliminate the CAPC
As long as Pat Matsukis has lived in Eureka Springs, there has been controversy about the City Advertising and Promotion Commission. Most recently, two CAPC commissioners resigned after a crowd turned out to protest actions taken by the Chair to remove a brief clip of a drag queen from a promotional video.
Diversity in the Ozarks to strengthen outreach activities

Food Bank of NEA hosting commodity distributions in McCrory, Cotton Plant
The Food Bank of Northeast Arkansas will hit the road to host a commodity distribution this week. The food bank will be in Woodruff County Wednesday. The first distribution will begin at 9 a.m. and end at 11 a.m. or when food runs out, in McCrory at the Three County Fairgrounds at 516 Poplar Avenue.
