Village of Akron issues water color alert
The Village of Akron is conducting routine fire flow testing today, July 19, 2024, and issued an alert this morning that the Village water may be discolored. The testing causes increased flow in the water main creating discolored water in the line. The Village is flushing at the end of the line to help eliminate the disturbed water which should bring the water back to normal within a day. The Village reports that while water may be discolored it is still safe for use.
States force green transition in public transportation despite taxpayer burden
(The Center Square) – Despite a hefty taxpayer price tag, several states are requiring cities to transition their public transportation to emitting zero greenhouse gasses. Since 2022, seven states have passed laws to transition to zero-emission school buses. In Illinois, a law passed last year requiring all transit agencies to purchase zero-emission buses by 2026. Similar legislation was passed in California, Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Maryland and New York. ...

At least 7 in New York sickened in listeria outbreak linked to deli meats
NEW YORK – A listeria outbreak linked to deli meats has sickened at least seven people in New York. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is investigating over two dozen reported illnesses across 12 states.As of Friday, 28 people have been sickened and hospitalized, with the most cases reported in New York state. Two deaths have been reported, one in New Jersey and another in Illinois.In New Jersey, one case was reported in Monmouth County and one case in Passaic County. Governor Hochul needs to declare a Climate Emergency
On Wednesday, Governor Kathy Hochul stood outside of a church in Rome, NY for a press conference to declare a State of Emergency after the storm system that produced Hurricane Beryl passed through the state and left scars of destruction in communities like the Town of Eden. During the event, she noted the destruction of the roof and steeple behind her were part of a wider path of destruction that hit the city and the surrounding area and tornado warnings were posted from Jamestown to Plattsburgh. Pointing out that her three-year administration had to deal with more historic nature events than probably anybody in history, she added “These extreme weather events are no longer the abnormal. They are the new normal.”
