EAST BRIDGEWATER — A 17-year-old boy was shot in the parking lot of a condominium complex on the night of the Fourth of July, police said.

Police received a 911 call reporting that a person was shot on Robins Street, in the parking lot outside the Pompohono Pines condominium complex, shortly before 9 p.m.

"Upon arrival, officers located a 17-year-old male who had been shot in the stomach," Police Chief Michael Jenkins said in a written statement.

Police officers and East Bridgewater Fire Department paramedics rendered aid to the victim, who was then taken by ambulance to a local hospital for further treatment. The victim's condition wasn't immediately known.

"The initial investigation indicates that the victim and another 17-year-old male were riding on a motorized scooter when the shooting took place," Jenkins said. "Police do not believe at this time that the incident was random."

Jenkins said the incident is under active investigation and that "several leads" are being pursued.

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call the East Bridgewater Police Department at 508-378-7223.
