Suspect arrested when stolen ATV runs out of gas: Police

CLEVELAND (WJW) – As karma would have it, a suspect accused of stealing an ATV was arrested by police when the off-road vehicle ran out of gas, according to local police.

Officers with the University Circle Police Department report that at about 9 p.m. on Saturday, July 20 they spotted a yellow and blue ATV that had been reported stolen out of East Cleveland.

According to a police report, the officers did not pursue the ATV but followed nearby and notified dispatchers of its last known location to provide to East Cleveland police. During the process, University Circle Police said they soon spotted the ATV and its driver stopped on the right side of Lakeview Road.

“The male was attempting to get the ATV started as it appeared to have stalled,” read the report.

Officers approached the driver and said, he “continued to try and restart the ATV, stating that he ran out of gas.”

According to the report, the suspect told officers he had received the ATV from his brother.

The suspect was detained and then arrested after police confirmed the ATV was reported stolen.

The owner of the ATV was contacted and later picked up the off-road vehicle. According to the police report, the victim identified the suspect in a photo lineup as “without a doubt, 100%, the male that had stolen his ATV.”

The suspect’s name and charges have not yet been released.
