Nation's Restaurant News reported today that EYM Pizza L.P. has filed for chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in the eastern district of Texas Monday. They said this pizza company "operates units in the South and Midwest". According to their corporate site, that includes Pizza Hut locations in Illinois.

Wahlert Baseball Nips Central Dewitt In 3A State Quarterfinals
The top ranked Wahlert Golden Eagles baseball team survived and advanced at the State High School Baseball Tournament yesterday at Veterans Memorial Stadium in Cedar Rapids with a 1-0 walk off victory over 8th seed Central Dewitt. The lone run scored in the bottom of the 7th when senior Brevin Hawkinson dashed home from third on a wild pitch. Hawkinson had advanced to 3rd by running after a dropped third strike and then throw to first, sliding safely under the tag to put him in position for the game winner with two outs. Despite an early error the Golden Eagles played some great defense and starter Foti Rigopoulous went all 7 innings, allowing only three hits, striking out 5 and walking none. It's been a rough tornado season and a new Illinois law is taking aim at that. We can all agree it's been a messy summer. In the Chicago area alone last week, there were 33 tornadoes, compared to their usual 5 or 6 per year. With the derecho that moved through last week, 5 tornadoes rolled through the QCA. In Iowa, May was ridiculous. We average 11 tornadoes in May. But this year, we had over 80 tornadoes in May alone.

French farmer incorporated town of La Motte in 1879
David Owen Montague, the founder of La Motte, was born of French parents in Vermont in 1805. In the fall of 1838, he and Joseph Palmer traveled from New York to what is now known as Jackson County. After deciding that this territory was his promised land, he returned to New York in December, walking over 50 miles through knee-deep snow the last day of his journey home. It was four years before he could see his farm of rock in New York.
Tractor ride headed to Bellevue
The fifth-annual Delmar Lions Tractor Ride will take place Saturday, Aug. 24. Proceeds will from the $25 entry fee go directly into the Delmar Lions’ coffers, which they turn into scholarships, Kids’ Sight programs and other items.
DRA Announces Over $1 Million In Grant Funding
The nonprofit license holder for Dubuque’s casinos has announced more than $1 million in grant funding to 57 area organizations. DRA board members on Tuesday unanimously approved the core grant funds at their monthly meeting. A report says the program targets grant requests up to $50,000 toward initiatives that support population growth, retention, tourism and more. A total of 127 area organizations applied for core grant funding, 57 of which were ultimately selected to receive a portion of the $1.23 million in grant support. Many of this year’s grant recipients are based in Dubuque, although awards also went out to organizations such as the Driver Opera House Restoration in Darlington, and the Boundless Trailer in East Dubuque.
