More than 24 hours after a storm blasted two pockets of Dutchess County, some homes are still without power, cable and phone service. News 12 visited with residents along Lomola Lane in East Fishkill Monday, where thick, old trees could be seen in nearly every yard. Central Hudson and the East Fishkill Highway Department were still blocking the neighborhood just east of Route 82 to drivers other than those who live here. "I'm surviving," Lomola Lane resident Richard Warren said with a laugh. He and his wife Karen walked down the road to the Lomola Civic Center to survey the damage. They are planning an Independence Day gathering there this weekend. The walkway is blocked by trees and was inaccessible by car Monday, but the main building appeared untouched. "I was just coming here to make sure that the Civic Center – we have rentals on the weekends – and to make sure that Central Hudson puts the wires together ... Anyways, you can see what the grounds look like," Karen Warren said. The damage seemed confined to only a few neighborhoods. "Some areas got hit, other neighbors nothing. You know, it was just weird," one neighbor said. "It's going to be a while before we have power because all these lines are a mess over here. I was hoping you were from Central Hudson." The Town of Red Hook – about an hour's drive north of Fishkill – was also hit hard. Town officials said, at least two homes were damaged by trees, and one woman inside one of those homes was injured when a tree tore through her roof. The town supervisor said Monday afternoon he has been told to expect full restoration of power in the area by the end of Monday. To those who still did not have power restoted by Monday evening, entral Hudson was giving out free dry ice and bottled water at the Tops Supermarket in Rhinebeck and the Home Depot on Route 9 in Fishkill.
