For 20 years, New Bedford snowbirds who winter in sunny Florida and those who've moved there permanently have gathered in Fort Myers to celebrate their hometown. New Bedford Day was founded in 2004 by former New Bedford Mayor Brian J. Lawler and his wife Johan. Fall River, MA is Trying to Save Money on its $9 million Annual Trash Bill
It costs big bucks for a community to manage its municipal waste, and Mayor Paul Coogan’s administration and the City Council are looking for ways to cut its $8 million to $9 million annual bill while still collecting and disposing of trash and recycling. Changes have already begun, through efforts of the solid waste team Coogan assembled about 1½ years ago.
A look at Cordage Park in Plymouth: A 40R District
In light of Fairhaven’s upcoming public hearing to create a 40R overlay district (see legal notice on page 21), the Neighb News traveled to Plymouth, to take a look at Cordage Park, an approximately 55-acre district on the waterfront in North Plymouth at the site of a former rope factory, the Plymouth Cordage Company. The project is largely considered a success in the overall 40R story in Massachusetts. The area was run down with a lot of empty buildings, but now is an active space with residences and businesses.
Taunton Development/MassDevelopment and Rhino Capital break ground on 180,000 s/f manufacturing facility
Taunton, MA The Taunton Development/MassDevelopment Corp., real estate investment firm Rhino Capital Advisors LLC, and state and local officials broke ground on a new 180,000 s/f advanced manufacturing facility located on lot BP2 at the Business Park at Myles Standish. In 2022, TD/MDC sold the last two undeveloped, pad-ready lots at the new business park – BP2 (11.25 acres) and BP3 (9.95 acres) – to Rhino Capital for the creation of speculative build-to-lease manufacturing facilities. At the new facility on lot BP2, Rhino Capital aims to attract “tough tech” tenants with building features such as a 32-foot clear height, up to an 8,000-amp power capacity, and five loading docks. Rhino Capital anticipates the facility will support hundreds of new jobs. Construction on the facility is expected to be completed in spring 2025.
