Michigan State basketball is one of many schools showing interest in an elite center prospect in the 2026 class.

Five-star center Sam Funches has reportedly been hearing from a host of big-time programs, including Michigan State. HS Top Recruits is reporting that Funches has heard from Michigan State, Cal, Kansas, Kansas State, Memphis, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, LSU, Louisville, Gonzaga, Tennessee, Houston, NC State and New Orleans during the Augusta Live event.

Funches ranks as the No. 1 center and No. 21 overall prospect in 247Sports’ composite rankings for the 2026 class. He’s also listed as the No. 1 player from Mississippi in the class.

Funches has received scholarship offers from 20 programs, according to 247Sports. Michigan State, however, has yet to offer him a scholarship.
