North Country woman killed in two-car crash in Grand Isle
Grand Isle, VT- A two-car crash is under investigation in Grand Isle after a North Country woman died from her injuries Tuesday night. Police say a Toyota Yaris driven by Shantel Lafountain, 26, from Champlain, NY, rear-ended a Jeep Grand Cherokee driven by a man from Clark, NJ. Both drivers were brought to UVM Medical Center for treatment, and Lafountain died at the hospital. The New Jersey man suffered minor injuries.
Rosie’s Girls, Vermont Works for Women’s trades exploration summer camp, returns to Barre and Essex
Vermont Business Magazine Sparks and sawdust are flying as Vermont Works for Women runs two weeks of its popular Rosie’s Girls camp in Barre and Essex this summer. Vermont Works for Women created Rosie’s Girls in 2000 as a way to encourage girls and gender-expansive youth to explore non-traditional fields for their gender, such as STEM and the skilled trades, in a safe, fun, and empowering summer camp setting. Campers gain hands-on experience in fields like construction and welding, use power tools, and learn life skills to support their growth and career journeys. Camps are run by Vermont Works for Women staff and many partners around the state each summer.
Police charge three in Kayla Wright murder
NEWPORT — The man police say shot and killed Kayla Wright, a 29-year-old Derby woman, last February is scheduled to be arraigned on a charge of first-degree murder on July 30. Two other men have already pled innocent to charges of helping to dispose of Ms. Wright’s body by placing it in a toolbox and throwing into the Missisquoi River.
