EAST PALO ALTO, Calif. ( KRON ) — Vice presidential candidate JD Vance is making his first visit to the Bay Area since being named former president Donald Trump’s running mate. He attended a fundraiser and dinner at The Four Seasons Hotel on Monday in East Palo Alto.

Vance was greeted by more than a dozen Trump supporters. There were also some counterprotesters on-site, leading to arguments.

For the first time since becoming Trump’s running mate, the Ohio senator is in the Bay Area.

Vance rolled in the motorcade and entered the Four Seasons Hotel for a fundraiser dinner. According to Bloomberg, it was hosted by BitGo CEO Mike Belshe.

“We are supporting JD Vance as the vice president,” said one Trump supporter outside of the event.

Starks came with other Trump supporters to cheer as the vice presidential nominee arrived.

They say they are excited for Vance, adding if Vance was vice president in 2020 instead of Mike Pence, he would have backed Trump on his reported efforts to overturn the election results.

“It’s just common sense to vote for Trump,” said the Trump supporter. “The news is all one-sided. People are brainwashed because we don’t hear the other side.”

But protesters nearby clashed with the trump supporters for a moment. Other protesters too say Trump and Vance do not represent them.

“They don’t like brown people,” a protestor against Trump said. “I know how they are and they don’t like brown people.”

Still, Trump supporters vow that they'll keep showing up here in the Bay Area.

It is unknown exactly how many donors were here at this fundraiser dinner, but we do know tickets were pricey — starting at more than $3,000 per person
