These Black Foodies Across Social Media Inspire Us to Experiment In and Out of the Kitchen

    By Elizabeth Paige Richardson,

We've always made do with whatever we've got stocked in the kitchen, but even the most crafty chef needs some inspiration now and then. If you're craving something new on your dinner plate, you just have to scroll your Insta and TikTok to discover the Black foodies that have taken over our social media feeds.

With food pics brimming with color and texture, they're whipping up recipes so good you can almost taste them (when will we be able to use an app for that?). They bring new and exciting dishes from their kitchens—or take our recipes outside and abroad—reminding us that food across the diaspora has always been used to nourish our minds, bodies and souls. Their digital creativity brings us together at the cultural communal table.

Here are Black chefs and foodies destined to make your mouth water and inspire your next cookout menu.

    Hepston H. Henry II @allseasoning20

Hepston H. Henry II treads his own path in the food scene. He sells his own spices, like Carolina Heat and Todo, at farmer's markets to help novice home chefs add a kick to their meals. His signature seasonings are showcased on dishes like jerk chicken and steamed kingfish, tasty morsels that have us begging for seconds.

    Ashley Boyd @thepinkowlkitchen

Cookbook author Ashley Boyd brings a taste of comforting Southern cooking to kitchens all over the world. Recipes like her honey catfish biscuits and mouth-watering cookie butter pie will surely bring the family back to the table every weekend.

    Netti’s Kitchen @nettiskitchen

Scrolling Chef Netti’s TikTok will have you reaching for a whole pile of napkins to dig heartily into her dishes. Her perfectly assembled chicken cutlet sandwiches and crisp buffalo chicken tacos are delicious additions to any meal rotation.

    Tamara Johnson @ razzle_dazzle_life

Chef Tamara Johnson knows that comfort food is delicious and easy to replicate. Dust off your Tupperware and get ready to whip up classic cookout dishes like BBQ pulled pork sandwiches and new creations like her Hawaiian macaroni salad, reasons that are worth spending time in the kitchen.

    Kenneth Temple @kennethtemple

The Food Network Chopped champion may be the best in his field, but his recipes are easy enough for us mere mortal chefs to follow along. His chocolate chip walnut cookie recipe will have everyone at the cookout lining up for a second round.

    Shani Walker @coinedcuisine

Chef Shani Walker perfected appetizers while working as a private chef in Atlanta, meaning she's got the goods for the perfect sides to classic cookout dishes (like her creamy spinach dip). And she's keeping us all cool with her simple four-ingredient mango sorbet and popsicle recipes.

    Jazzmine Woodard @jazzminewoodard

This home cook and self-described foodie travels the globe to try some of the best foods Europe has to offer. Her refreshing massaged kale salad recipe and hibiscus-inspired cocktails keep the hot summer weather at bay as you dig into these delights.

    Tobias Young @simplyfoodbyty

It's all in the name: In between his thriving career as an actor and singer, Tobias Young is sharing the art of simple comfort food on his TikTok page. Twists on classic dishes, like deviled eggs stuffed with bacon onion jam filling, will make anyone’s stomach rumble.

    Chef Akayy @chefakayy

Serving up a plate of fun with every new dish on her page, Chef Akayy delivers plenty of taco inspiration, a variety of fruit-filled cheesecake recipes, and more creative combos like “chicken rings” from this self-taught chef.
