Clouds & A Few Showers Tonight; Heat, Humidity, and Storms Through Next Week
OTTUMWA, Iowa (KYOU) - This evening we continue to deal with muggy dew points in the upper 60s and low 70s, as cloud cover moves in from the south. Wildfire smoke continues to linger in our upper atmosphere, but there is a relatively small amount of it and it is not expected to reach the ground. This means our air quality will see minimal effects from the smoke, but the sunset tonight will have some vibrant red and orange colors. Overnight, our lows fall into the upper 60s as our skies become mostly cloudy. Late tonight and early Sunday morning, some scattered showers could form and a few rumbles of thunder cannot be ruled out. Clouds are expected to decrease by Sunday afternoon, which allows high temperatures to reach the mid to upper 80s. Humidity continues to be noticeable during this time, as dew points climb into the low to mid 70s. Scattered shower and storm chances increase Sunday night into Monday morning as lows fall into the upper 60s and low 70s. Depending on how shower and storm activity evolves on Monday morning, we could see storms redevelop Monday afternoon, and some of them could be strong. Stay tuned for updates and consider this your First Alert to the possibility for strong storms Monday afternoon. Tuesday looks dry, but off and on storm chances return Wednesday and Thursday as our temperatures climb into the 90s, dew points remain in the 70s, and heat index values approach triple digits at times.
