Suspect surrenders after sparking SWAT team response in Edina

A suspect who was possibly armed and posed a "threat to law enforcement" sparked a SWAT team response in Edina Saturday morning.

Edina PD says the incident unfolded on the 5100 block of Schaefer Road, which was shut down for several hours as police responded to a report of a "disturbance."

"Police learned the subject involved may be armed and a threat to law enforcement," Edina PD said. "Out of an abundance of caution, the SWAT team and negotiators were called in to develop a plan for a peaceful resolution."

The suspect surrendered at around 12:30 p.m. after negotiations with police. There's been no word on whether the suspect was armed, nor the nature of the disturbance that sparked the initial call.
