An Edison woman was killed last weekend when a large tree fell onto her camper at a New York campground.

The Facebook page for the Town of Colchester Police Department stated Carol E. Luistro was pronounced dead at the scene. Edison police said Luistro is the wife of a cousin to retired Edison Police Sgt. Joseph Luistro who died in January.

According to the post, around 10:50 a.m. Sunday, June 30, the Delaware County 911 Center received multiple reports of trees down on campers and an individual trapped at the Russell Brook Campground, 731 Russell Brook Road, Town of Colchester.

As fire, EMS and police personnel traveled to the scene they encountered numerous downed trees and power lines following a strong storm that had moved through the area. When first responders arrived at the campground, they found a woman had been struck by a fallen tree, the post states.

An investigation indicates Luistro was inside a camper when a large tree fell, hitting the camper and pinning her underneath, the post states.

A GoFundMe.com page called Helping Carol Luistro's Family Through Loss i s looking to raise $30,000 for her family. As of Wednesday afternoon nearly $6,000 has been raised by about 60 donors.

The page, created Tuesday by three friends, states Luistro and her family were camping Sunday with a group at Russell Brook Campsites in Roscoe, New York. The family was preparing to go white water rafting when without warning a tornado/microburst storm approached with 90 mph winds, rain and hail.

"Carol, her husband Lloyd and their sons, Daniel 15 yrs old & Max 12 yrs old, were hiding from the storm in their cabin when a massive 100 foot tree fell on the corner of the cabin," the page states.

"Carol was an incredible wife, mother and daughter. The roles she cherished most were being a mama to her wonderful boys and a devoted and loving wife to her husband Lloyd. Her beautiful smile would brighten any room and she loved celebrating life. Every one who met her, loved her. Carol was the person who would always volunteer to help those in need," the page states. " At 45 years old, she had so much light and love left to give."

The Colchester Police post states multiple fire departments, EMS personnel, New York State Police, the Delaware County Sheriff's Office and Delaware County Medical Examiner's Office were among those that responded to the scene.
