24 Year Old Edison Man Dies in Saturday's Stafford Township Motor Vehicle Crash

STAFFORD - On July 20, 2024, at approximately 7:45 PM, a motor vehicle collision took place on State Highway 72 eastbound near mile 24.5, involving two passenger vehicles.

A 2018 Subaru, driven by Justin Layer, 26, from Barnegat, was traveling east on Highway 72 when a 2023 Chevrolet Corvette, driven by Kevin Scoda, 24, from Edison, New Jersey, collided with him.

Scoda's vehicle lost control, veered off the road, and crashed into a utility pole, while it was engulfed in flames. Before police and emergency services, unidentified citizens managed to help Scoda out of his vehicle.
Kevin Scoda was transported to Southern Ocean Medical Center, where he succumbed to the injuries sustained in the accident. The Stafford Police Department extended its heartfelt condolences to Kevin Scoda's family during this painful time.

Traffic was diverted off Route 72 eastbound for approximately two hours during the investigation.

Kevin Scoda obituary has been released. He worked for Federal Metals and Alloys in South Plainfield.
