Belleville Man Killed in Motorcycle Accident on Route 1 in Edison

EDISON, NJ - A Belleville man was killed in a motorcycle accident on Sunday night on Route 1 near Old Post Road, according to Edison Police. Authorities confirmed that Alexander Chong, age 45, was killed in the accident and another cyclist was injured.

At 8:15 PM, police say a group of motorcyclists was traveling on Route 1 North at a high speed. One motorcyclist clipped another and both fell off their bikes, according to Police Chief Thomas Bryan.

Chong reportedly hit the back of a car that was stopped for a red light and went underneath the vehicle. He was pronounced deceased at the scene, according to police.

The other motorcyclist was transported to Robert Johnson University Hospital and was listed in critical condition. Chief Bryan says that he was upgraded to stable condition this morning. His identity is unknown at this time.
