Darlington Celebrates 175 Years This Weekend
The City of Darlington will mark its 175th anniversary with a celebration this weekend. Darlington will hold its 175th anniversary celebration with a variety of activities on Saturday. A 175th anniversary program will be held from noon to 12:30 p.m. at the festival grounds. A street dance will be held from 5 p.m. to midnight on lower Main Street. There is a $5 cover charge. Headliner Time Machine will perform from 8 p.m. to midnight. According to reports, Darlington is named for Joshua Darling, a banker from Warsaw, New York in 1849. Darling and his agents, James M. Keep and J.B. Lynde, purchased land in the area to accommodate miners and farmers arriving in the region. The community was first named Centre, then became Darlington in 1869.
