Caterpillar and fungus pose double threat to Mississippi oak trees and other hardwoods, officials warn
A caterpillar and a fungus pose a double threat to oak trees and other hardwood trees in parts of Mississippi. A significant outbreak of variable oak leaf caterpillar, coupled with the presence of hypoxylon canker, which is a fungus that negatively affects growth and can eventually lead to the death of weak or diseased host trees, has been reported in several cities in or near Central Mississippi, including the Flora, Pocahantas, and Raymond areas.
SCHC presents July’s Line Dance Practices and “Born in the USA” Line Dance Party
VICKSBURG, Miss. – The Southern Cultural Heritage Center presents a “Born in the USA” Line Dance Party in the SCHC Auditorium, at the corner of Crawford and Cherry Streets. We will do line dances of all styles including country, soul, and pop. We will do a few mixers, too! Come dressed in favorite red, white, and blue patriotic attire and we will have some of your favorite dance songs with a “Born in the USA” theme! The Dance Party is Saturday, July 13, 2024. There will be a dance tutorial from 6-7 p.m. and a dance party from 7-9 p.m. The cost is $10/person. There will be a cash bar and concessions available. Join us for Dance Parties on the second Saturday of each month!

USACE Vicksburg District announces Arkabutla Lake deer archery hunt
July 1 – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Vicksburg District announces that Arkabutla Lake will hold its special management archery deer hunt from Oct. 18-20 and 25-27. The event will consist of two, three-day hunts. Applicants must have a valid Mississippi hunting license.
