City of Meridian demolishes 89 abandoned buildings, condemns 25 more
MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) - In recent weeks and months, there have been many structure fires in Meridian, and often, the building that has caught on fire is abandoned. In the last three years, the city has demolished 89 buildings, some commercial and some residential, as a way to beautify the city while also making it safer.

Supreme Court denies motion for relief for man who killed 81-year-old Clinton woman
JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) – A man sentenced to death for killing an 81-year-old woman back in 2010 will not get another day in court. On Thursday, the Mississippi Supreme Court denied James Hutto’s petition to file for successive post-conviction relief, with the judges saying his arguments were without merit.

One pedestrian dead, one injured in crash on Rainey Road in Jackson
Friday morning at around 12:30 am, JPD responded to 3435 Rainey Road regarding two pedestrians who had been struck by a vehicle. The victims of the accident were two 15-year-old female juveniles. One of the victims died from her injuries, the second victim was transported by AMR to the hospital for treatment.
