JACKSON, Miss. — A 15-year-old girl was killed overnight when she and a friend were struck by a car. Detective Tommie Brown said a car was traveling in the 3400 block of Rainey Road at about 12:30 a.m. Friday, when it came over a hill and struck the two 15-year-old girls. The girls and another friend were walking along the road.

Fallen Madison police officer honored in rolling memorial
MADISON, Miss. — A national nonprofit is making sure a Madison police officer killed in the line of duty is never forgotten. Beyond the Call of Duty stopped in Madison on Thursday to honor fallen veteran officer Randy Tyler, who was killed during a 2023 standoff in Brandon. Tyler, 64, was a former Ridgeland police chief and was working part-time with the Madison Police Department as a co-commander of the department’s SWAT team when he was killed.
JSU receives grant to preserve historic hospital
JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) – The Zachary T. Hubert Health Center at Jackson State University received a $198,564 grant from the National Park Service to preserve the building. The money will go towards a new roof and a new HVAC System. Jackson State University’s Community Engagement Director, Heather Denne, believes the money will not only preserve the building itself, but the history behind it.
