Michigan education advocates want to see a supplemental budget to increase funding
(CBS DETROIT) - One education advocacy group says Michigan's school budget for the next fiscal year is missing some funding. The $83 billion state budget for the next fiscal year includes about a $400 increase in per-student funding for schools and expansions to programs that allow residents to continue their education well into adulthood. LANSING, MI – With bipartisan support, state lawmakers are finally moving ahead with opening themselves and the governor’s office to public records requests. If the bill becomes law, Michigan would no longer be the only state in the U.S. where the governor’s office is exempt from Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests. Only one other state exempts lawmakers from FOIA requests.
Fourth of July fireworks contributing to heavy fog in bypass crash
ELKHART COUNTY, Ind. --Fireworks could be heard across Michiana Thursday night in celebration of Independence Day, but when the smoke from those fireworks mixed with the humid, foggy air along the US 20 bypass, the low visibility led to an almost 15 car pile-up. Meteorologist Nathan Marsili from the National Weather Service (NWS) explained that the firework smoke and humidity caused from rainfall in Elkhart County created something called an inversion in the atmosphere.
