Suspect arrested, charged with first-degree murder in Chapel Hill shooting
A man was killed in an early morning shooting on Wednesday in Chapel Hill.The Chapel Hill Police Department said the shooting happened in the 100 block of Ashley Forest Road just after 1 a.m. When officers arrived they found Adam Abdur-Rahman, 37, of Chapel Hill with a gunshot wound.He was taken to UNC Hospital where he later died.Police said Mario Chrishunn Thompson, 45, of Chapel Hill, was charged with first-degree murder and two counts of discharge weapon into occupied property.Thompson is being held at the Orange County Detention Center without bond.Anyone with information should call 911 or contact the Chapel Hill Police Department at 919-968-2760 (8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday). Hillsborough Police Seeking Information on Vehicle Break-Ins
The Hillsborough Police Department is seeking information on a series of motor vehicle break-ins which occurred early on Thursday morning. Officers say a group of individuals came into town in a stolen vehicle and broke into multiple vehicles, mainly in the Beckett’s Ridge, Pinewood Station and Waterstone neighborhoods. Police say the individuals also entered a residence through an open garage door and stole person property, including car keys which were then used to steal two other vehicles. One of the vehicles has since been recovered.

Man who admitted to killing Elon University student in Myrtle Beach crash avoids jail time
MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. — A man who admitted to causing an accident resulting in the death of an Elon University student in Myrtle Beach last year will not serve jail time. Jason Sauro pleaded guilty to a charge of first-degree assault and battery, according to NBC affiliate WMBF. He was sentenced to 10 years in prison. However, a judge suspended that sentence to five years of probation. This means that if Sauro fails to adhere to the conditions of his probation, he could potentially serve active time behind bars.
