Man at center of EHT standoff jailed for not turning over guns

An Egg Harbor Township man who sparked an hours-long standoff in November is back in jail after weapons were found in his home, police said.

Joseph Dill, 42, barricaded himself inside his home Nov. 30, for nearly 12 hours, after allegedly firing rounds while yelling at his neighbors.

A woman called police at 3:37 a.m. that day, claiming a man was breaking her porch lights and attempting to gain entry into her residence by kicking her front door. She then said the man left her residence, and was actively shooting a firearm from a home across the street.

Dill approached the neighbor’s home saying, “Come and get it f—–,” using a homosexual slur, according to the affidavit of probable cause previously reported by BreakingAC.

Police arrived to the man running into his home and barricading himself inside.

Tremont and Bates avenues, along with streets in the immediate area were shut down during the stanoff. Multiple weapons were also seized from his home at the time.

He was charged on a summons charging him with attempted burglary, criminal mischief and harassment. Dill did briefly go to the Atlantic County Justice Facility on an outstanding failure to appear warrant in a municipal harassment case out of the township from 2021, court records showed.

He did not stay jailed long. He went in on a Thursday, and was out by that Saturday morning.

Further investigation led to a warrant for unlawful possession of a weapon, which led to a search of the property for additional weapons Dill was believed to have, police said.

Dill was arrested on the warrant last Wednesday. Additional weapons also were allegedly found on the property, leading to charges for Dill disobeying the court order to surrender all weapons and ammunition at the time of the initial incident, police said.

He remains in the Atlantic County Justice Facility.

The township Police Department thanked the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office for their assistance with finalizing charges, along with members of the Bargaintown Volunteer Fire Company who provided illumination and other services during the execution of the warrant.
