LUBBOCK, Texas — On Monday, Cesar Guzman, an incoming Frenship ISD 7th grader, was sent off by Terra Vista Middle School staff as he headed to compete in the National Spanish Spelling Bee in El Paso.

Guzman will compete in the national competition on Thursday.

“Frenship ISD has some pretty amazing kids and he truly is the example of one,” said Guzman’s teacher and coach, Cristina Barragan. “I’m very proud of Cesar.”

This is not the first time Guzman has reached this level in the competition. In the 2022-23 school year when Guzman was in 5th grade, he qualified for nationals and placed 7th place out of about 40 students.
