“El Paso, out here on the east side, is growing tremendously,” said City of El Paso Public Affairs Coordinator Russell Williams.

“In order to keep up with all the new people, new construction, all the new housing, all the new families, these are the amenities that the City of El Paso or Pasoans wanted to see. We’ve been listening to them through various community meetings,” said Williams.

This next phase of the project will entail $7 million enhancements to the park, which are set to begin construction in early 2025 and expected to be completed by the summer of 2026.

    • Four baseball fields with shaded bleachers.
    • Two sand volleyball courts, two handball courts and six pickle ball courts.
    • Two basketball courts and a futsal court (indoor soccer).
    • Two new pavilion shelters, and a food court area.
    • An enlarged restroom building with a tool storage room.
    • Parking area, and the installation of landscaping and irrigation systems.

City officials at the meeting said phase two design is 90 percent complete.

It is not clear how many phases of the project there will be, but overall, the Beast Park will amount to nearly 90 acres of land.

The first phase of the park, which is already complete, included the construction of a recreation facility with an indoor 50-meter pool, gymnasiums, a new water park and a surfing machine, which accounted for nearly 5 acres of the land.

Phase two will approximate 15 acres of land, according to officials at the meeting.

For context, Williams said the Beast Park will be twice as large as Eastwood Park, more commonly known as Album Park.

“This park is massive. Once it’s all constructed and done, it’s going to be 80 plus acres, which makes it the City of El Paso’s biggest park in its inventory,” Williams said.

About two dozen people attended the meeting to learn information about where the project stands.

Although the design of phase two of the project is nearly done, there could be small room for adjustments to the outlined plans, but officials said it would depend on the budget.

An East El Paso resident at the meeting spoke with KTSM about what he would like to see and learn of the project.

“That we have a top-notch facility and that corners are not cut,” said Robert Munoz. “I’m really excited about it, as someone who’s come back to El Paso and to see the progress. I would like to learn of the other fields that would be available, I’d like to learn more about possible revenue enhancement tournament wise, what partnerships the city will have.”

The meeting allowed for back-and-forth feedback and input from people, including local pickle ball and handball players who were advocating for more courts to be built.

City officials said they expect to finalize the design of phase two in 30 days.
