Jorge Tovar is all business in training as he prepares for his middleweight fight on July 27 at the El Paso County Coliseum.

Middleweight boxers compete at 160 pounds.

Tovar, who is 8-0 with six knockouts, takes on 16-16-3 Lester Medrano of Nicaragua on the undercard of the Stephanie Han vs. Miranda Reyes fight for the WBA lightweight Intercontinental title.

"Training has gone well. I have worked hard and I feel prepared," said the 25-year-old Tovar. "It's a process as a professional and I feel like I'm making progress."

After six straight knockouts to start his career, Tovar has been pushed hard in his last two fights going the the full six rounds in wins vs. Marcelo Fabian Bzowski and Keithland King, both at the El Paso County Coliseum.

"My last fight was really hard, very physical and it took some time to heal up from that fight," Tovar said. "But it was a great learning experience and I have to continue to build from my previous experiences. My goal is to continue to step up to the challenge and ultimately win a world title one day. It's one fight at a time and I have to take care of business on July 27."

El Paso cruiserweight Dominic Barry, who also fights on July 27, spars with Tovar and has gotten a close up view of Tovar's talents.

"Jorge is a hard puncher and he works hard in training," Barry said. "He'll be prepared to fight and give fans his best effort. Jorge has a good skill level and he has so much potential to be great in this sport."
