SIERRA COUNTY, N.M. (KRQE) – One driver has been identified after a double-fatal crash on Interstate 25 on Thursday night.

Around 10:50 p.m., the New Mexico State Police (NMSP) were called to a crash near mile marker 59 on I-25. Two commercial motor vehicles were involved.

NMSP said the vehicles were on fire when they arrived, resulting in “complete burn-through of both trucks.”

Authorities investigated and found that one vehicle was heading north when it hit an elk, swerved left, went over the barrier, and collided with a vehicle heading south. The impact may have caused the fire.

One driver was identified as Adrian Alejandro Cruz, of El Paso, Texas. They have not been able to identify the second driver. NMSP is still investigating.
