An El Paso man was shot multiple times following a large fight in South-Central after the suspect believed the victim assaulted his friend, court documents state.

Miguel Eduardo Teran-Moral, 30 , and another person allegedly shot and killed 29-year-old Ivan Dario Bello Espitia of El Paso, a complaint affidavit states.

The other person is not named in court documents and no related cases have been listed in court records. El Paso Police Department officers have not released any information on the other man.

Teran-Moral, who is listed on a jail log as "Miguel Teran," remains jailed on a $1 million bond as of Tuesday, July 23, jail logs show. A bond hearing is set for 1:30 p.m. Thursday, July 25, court records show.

Leonard Morales, Teran-Moral's attorney, declined to comment.

Victim allegedly assaulted Teran-Moral's friend before fatal shooting

Officers responded about 3 a.m. July 7 to a 911 call reporting an assault in progress in the 200 block of South Glenwood Street near Alameda Avenue in South-Central. The report was then upgraded to a shooting, police officials said.

Officers arrived and found Espitia with multiple gunshot wounds. He was taken to a hospital for emergency surgery. However, he died at the hospital July 15 from the injuries he sustained in the shooting. An El Paso medical examiner later ruled the cause of death as homicide due to multiple gunshot wounds, the affidavit states.

Crimes Against Persons unit detectives were called to the shooting.

A 16-year-old witness identified Teran-Moral as one of the two shooters to detectives, the affidavit states. The witness told police prior to the shooting, a fight broke out between multiple people on a property on Glenwood Street.

Teran-Moral arrived with a loaded pistol, the witness told officers, the affidavit states. Teran-Moral left and came back with another person. The person, who is not named in court documents, had what the witness described as a "machine gun," the affidavit states.

The witness only knew the other person by a nickname. The affidavit does not state the nickname.

The suspect, who was not named, shot Espitia first, and then Teran-Moral fired two shots at the victim as he lay on the ground, the witness told police.

A second witness, who "greatly fears her safety and that of her family," also identified Teran-Moral as one of the two shooters, the affidavit states.

The witness said the reason for the shooting was because Teran-Moral believed Espitia had assaulted a friend earlier, the affidavit states. No information was released on whether the assault was during the large fight before the fatal shooting.

Teran-Moral fled after the shooting, the witness told police.

An arrest warrant was issued July 7 for Teran-Moral. Police officers, with the assistance of the U.S. Marshal's Lone Star Fugitive Task Force, arrested Teran-Moral July 18 on suspicion of murder.

Authorities have not released Teran-Moral's jail booking photo.
