An El Paso man has been arrested in connection with a shooting that killed a Fort Bliss soldier and wounded another outside an East Side bar.

Kwesi Nataniel Bacchus, 22, was arrested on a murder charge and incarcerated on a $1 million bond at the El Paso County Jail in Downtown, El Paso Police Department officials said Wednesday, July 24.

The jail booking photo of Bacchus has not been released because homicide detectives are investigating the shooting.

The fatal incident occurred about 12:20 a.m. Sunday, July 21, in the parking lot in front of Legendz Bar & Grill in The Pavillions II retail strip on Zaragoza Road at Vista Del Sol Drive.

Fort Bliss officials identified the U.S. Army soldier killed in a shooting that also wounded a second soldier.

Pfc. Manuel Rivera-Pohl, 24, an AH-64D Apache helicopter crew chief, died the night of the shooting at The Hospitals of Providence East Campus on Joe Battle Boulevard, Fort Bliss said in a statement.

The second soldier, Jermaine Jeron Fagin, 26, was wounded in the shooting and treated at a hospital and released, police officials stated. Both soldiers were in the 1st Armored Division.

At the time of the shooting, police were patrolling the area when officers heard gunshots at 1610 N. Zaragoza Road, police said in a news release.

Officers were "directly behind a white Dodge Charger" when the gunfire rang out. Officers then saw Rivera-Pohl and Fagin on the ground as the Charger passed them, police said.

Police attempted to stop the Dodge, but it fled. The incident was recorded on the patrol vehicle's camera, police added. Also listed as victims were Christopher Gianni Moore, 19, of Fort Bliss, and Jalen Jeremiah Griffin, 19, of Horizon City. The extent of their injuries, if any, were not disclosed.

    Fort Bliss general offers support

"The thoughts and prayers of every Iron Soldier are with the family, friends, and teammates of Pfc. Rivera-Pohl during this difficult time," Maj. Gen. Curtis Taylor, commanding general of the 1st Armored Division and Fort Bliss, said in a statement.

"We remain committed to ensuring that those impacted by this tragic event receive the support and resources they need," Taylor said.
