A couple died after their plane crashed in a field Sunday in northwest Kansas, officials say.

David Allen, 78, and his wife, 79-year-old Jeanne Allen, both from Elbert, Colorado, were killed in the crash, Kansas Highway Patrol crash logs show.

The incident was reported at 6:10 p.m. in an area 10 miles north of Hoxie in Sheridan County. The aircraft, a 1934 Waco YKC fixed wing single-engine airplane, was being flown by the husband. The wife was riding passenger, according to the KHP report .

The plane was flying south when it crashed in a field. The couple died at the scene, the report said.

A Federal Aviation Administration crash report said the plane crashed in Selden, a town of under 200 people north of Hoxie, and caught on fire.

FAA records show that the couple owned the plane and the cause of the crash remains under “unknown circumstances,” the FAA said.

A 2018 General Aviation News article hailed David and Jeanne as “well known in the antique community as a husband-and-wife restoration team” of antique planes.

The article said Jeanne was also a pilot.
