SLIDELL, La. ( WGNO ) — One person has died, and another was hospitalized with critical injuries following a two-car crash on Interstate 10 near Gause Boulevard in the early morning hours of Friday, June 21.
According to the Louisiana State Police, troopers started investigating a two-car crash shortly before 1 a.m.
The crash reportedly killed 36-year-old Brittany Rawson of Elberta, Alabama, and seriously injured 42-year-old Andre Fontana, who was driving the vehicle, a 2014 BMW X1, when it crashed into the back of a Freightliner trailer.
Troopers say Rawson was not wearing a seatbelt when the crash happened and was brought to a hospital where she later died from her injuries. Fontana was also not wearing a seatbelt and was also taken to a hospital for treatment.
Toxicology samples have been taken from both Fontana and the driver of the Freightliner for analysis during the ongoing investigation.
The state police emphasized the necessity of wearing your seatbelt when driving in order to “dramatically reduce your chance of being injured or killed in a crash.” And that “Properly wearing your seat belt is one of the most effective ways to save your life and reduce crash injuries.”
