Native Plantings - June Yard of the Month Selected
Now that June is passed, lawns and gardens are flourishing. The city’s Natural Resources Advisory Committee selected its Yard of the Month based on native landscaping. The June honoree is that of Constance Adams, 1307 Hillcrest Court. In her Native Planting Landscape Plan for 2024 Adams lists more than 20 plant species among her five native gardens. Her objective is to provide habitat for Monarch Butterflies. “One day in 2022 I counted 70 Monarch’s at a time,” said Adams. Last year that was down significantly, underscoring the importance of providing habitat. She started planting native species in 2010 and has added to it annually.
