Press Forward Minnesota raises $6 million from local foundations
Major foundations in Minnesota have helped raise $6 million in support of Press Forward Minnesota to boost local journalism, the Star Tribune reports. Since Press Forward Minnesota—a local chapter of the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation’s national initiative Press Forward—launched in January, it has received funding from the McKnight Foundation in Minneapolis, the Bush Foundation and the Glen Nelson Center at American Public Media Group in St. Paul, as well as the Chicago-based MacArthur Foundation. The five-year, statewide movement aims to re-center local journalism as a force for community cohesion, civic participation, and government accountability, while focusing on racial equity. The initiative’s goal is to raise $10 million dollars to reinvest in Minnesota’s local news ecosystem.

“SOMETHING ROTTEN” MUSICAL COMING TO PUPOSKY
(Puposky, MN) — The Wild Rose Women’s Theater Collective in Puposky will be performing the PG-13 musical “Something Rotten” starting this Thursday. The musical follows the siblings Nick and Nigelina as they set out to write the world’s first musical in the 1590’s. Tickets are being sold at McKenzie Place in Bemidji from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at $20.00 for adults and $15.00 for youths aged 13 – 18. The Lambert family of Maple Lake will hold their bi-annual Heroes Unite fundraiser on Saturday, August 3 at the Maple Lake Community Park from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. The fundraiser raises money to find a cure for KAND (KIF1A Associated Neurological Disorder) a rare disease five-year-old Hoyt Lambert battles every day. The event will feature an all new 5K run followed by the Tiny Hero Dash. Children are invited to wear their best superhero getups (or Superhero Hoyt t-shirts) and will be provided with silly string and squirt guns to fire at lurking villains as they run around the park.
