ELIZABETH, NJ - Elizabeth middle school students participated in a customized workshop earlier this month where they used dance and art to explore mental health and disabilities.

Project BrOKen’s Healing Stage Workshops, created by Union County resident María Daniel, incorporate dance, movement, improvisation, music, props, and expressive art experiences.

Following the Healing Stage Workshop on July 11, the students participated in a survey. The students reported feeling less anxious, more self-aware, focused, confident, calm, creative, happier, and more comfortable within themselves. Students also reported an increase in self-confidence and learned new coping mechanisms through arts engagement and breathing exercises.
