Elizabethton Police Department arrest reports

The following arrests have been reported by the Elizabethton Police Department:

Warrant Arrest at H & S Hunting:
On August 7, Officer Erin Potter responded to 430 East E St. (H & S Hunting) in reference to a warrant service. The Carter County Communications Center informed Officer Potter that a male subject, identified as Joseph Chase Rogers, was attempting to purchase a weapon and had active warrants out of Washington County. Upon arrival, Officer Potter spoke with Rogers, who confirmed his identity with a Tennessee ID. The Communications Center verified that Rogers had an active warrant in Washington County for felony reckless endangerment with a $10,000 bond. Rogers was transported to Sinking Creek Baptist Church, where he was taken into custody by the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.

Disorderly Conduct on Highway 19E Bypass:
On August 6, Officer Matthew Goldberg was dispatched to 1200 Highway 19E Bypass in reference to a disorderly person. The Communications Center reported that a subject named Michael Joe Woodby was drinking, cursing, and making obscene gestures at passing cars. Upon arrival, Officer Goldberg observed Woodby walking southbound on Highway 19E Bypass, unsteady on his feet, and gesturing toward vehicles. Officer Goldberg noted a strong odor of alcohol emanating from Woodby, who exhibited incoherent thoughts, slurred speech, and unsteady movement. After attempting a finger dexterity test, which Woodby performed poorly, Officer Goldberg arrested him for public intoxication for his safety and the safety of the public. Two bottles of Pinnacle Vodka were found on Woodby, one nearly empty. Woodby was transported to the Carter County Detention Center without incident and is scheduled to appear in Carter County General Sessions Court on September 9.

Driving Without a License on Elizabethton Highway:
On August 1, Watch Commander Anthony Buck observed a green Mazda traveling in the opposing lane for approximately 500 feet on the old Elizabethton Highway near Taylortown Road. Buck conducted a traffic stop and identified the driver as Mauricio Hernandez Gomez using his Mexican driver’s license and with the assistance of an interpreter, Billy Espinoza. A faint odor of alcohol was detected, but Buck concluded that Gomez was not impaired. Gomez did not have a passport and was issued a citation/summons for driving without a license and driving on roadways laned for travel. Gomez is required to appear in General Sessions Court on August 21.

Shoplifting Incident at Wal-Mart:
On August 1, Cpl. James Deese and Cpl. Eric Norman responded to a shoplifting report at 1001 Overmountain Drive (Walmart). Upon arrival, they were informed by the store’s asset prevention staff that a female subject had been observed placing multiple items in her purse and a plastic Wal-Mart bag. The staff decided to confront the female, identified as Lacey J. Terwedo, inside the store and trespass her from all Walmarts. During this process, Terwedo denied shoplifting and caused a public disturbance by swearing loudly. After signing the trespass order, Terwedo aggressively charged at a Walmart employee. Cpl. Norman intervened, but Terwedo continued to escalate the situation. She was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct and transported to the Carter County Detention Center without incident.
