Richard and Norma Tetrick and family are changing the life of a single mother, Corrie, by providing a meaningful $50,000 donation to build her a brand-new Habitat for Humanity home in Elizabethton, Tennessee.

Holston Habitat for Humanity provides opportunities for homeownership to low-income families across Carter, Sullivan, and Washington Counties in Tennessee, as well as in Bristol, Virginia. Corrie’s new 2-bedroom, 1-bathroom home is being built on Blevins Avenue in Elizabethton, where she is thrilled to set down roots and provide a stable life for her adolescent daughter.

The construction of Corrie’s new home is being made possible by the impactful donation by Richard and Norma Tetrick and family. This gift provides the necessary funding to build the new home and is allowing Holston Habitat for Humanity to meet their mission for a deserving single mother.

“Our family has always believed in the East Tennessee area, and especially our hometown and surrounding area.,” says Richard Tetrick. “We think it is important to give back to our community in a myriad of ways.  We know Holston Habitat makes a world of difference in the lives of very deserving people and we are thankful we can participate in such a great movement.”

Corrie, who has completed over 175 sweat equity volunteer hours, and saved up for her down payment, demonstrates the work ethic and sincere commitment to being a successful Habitat for Humanity homeowner. Her engagement in the program and drive to provide a better life for her daughter is a shining example of a family that just needed a hand-up to reach their American Dream.

“Without the generosity of the Tetrick family, Holston Habitat for Humanity would not be able to provide this life-changing opportunity of owning a brand-new, energy-efficient home to Corrie and her daughter. The Tetrick family is giving Corrie the gift of a lifetime: a safe, stable home to grow and make memories in,” says Laura Kelly, Executive Director of Holston Habitat for Humanity. “We are immensely grateful. It’s hard to put into words what this kind of gift means to the organization and to Corrie.”

Holston Habitat’s Homeownership Program offers a hand-up to low-income homebuyers by offering a 0% interest mortgage, and at times, a second forgivable mortgage, to ensure that local homeowners can afford their monthly payments. “When families have a home they can afford, we see other things improve: physical and mental health, education, employment outcomes, child welfare, and more,” says Kelly. “Investing in affordable homeownership is a no-brainer, and we hope that the Tetrick family’s significant gift inspires others to make an impact on their community as well.”

Corrie’s new home is currently framed with trusses ready for roofing to be installed. To find out more about Corrie’s new home and how to volunteer, visit Holston Habitat for Humanity’s website or contact Mandy Penz, Volunteer Manager, at volunteer@holstonhabitat.org.
