Kingsport announces road closures for July 4th events
The City of Kingsport has announced road closures for the city’s Independence Day celebrations. The Mack Riddle American Legion Independence Day Parade steps of at 10 a.m. and some roads will be closed starting the morning of July 4 until the parade is finished. The parade route will go down Center Street from Wateree Street to Memorial Park on Fort Henry Drive and will affect some adjacent roadways. Expect additional road closers Saturday in Kingsport for the city’s annual Red, White, and Boom event on Main Street beginning at 5 p.m.

Tennessee Heat Wave Continues, Dangerous Temperatures Persist
Nashville, TN – Tennessee is enduring a severe heat wave, with temperatures expected to reach between 105 and 110 degrees this week. The US National Weather Service in Nashville has issued a Heat Advisory from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday for most counties, excluding the Plateau. Residents are advised to stay hydrated and take breaks if outdoors for extended periods.
Josiah-Jordan James signs with Indiana
Former Tennessee men’s basketball player Josiah-Jordan James signed a contract with Indiana. James signed an Exhibit 10 contract and will play for Indiana in the NBA Summer League. An Exhibit 10 contract is a one-year minimum salary contract and invitation to the Pacers’ practice and a try-out. Indiana will control James’ contractual rights. The team has the right to turn the deal into a G-League contract or a two-way contract. James averaged 8.4 assists and 6.4 rebounds per game during his final year with the Vols. He totaled nine points and nine rebounds in Tennessee’s win against Texas in the NCAA Tournament second-round. He recorded 15 points, four rebounds and two assists in the Vols’ win over Creighton in the Sweet 16. James was the first 5-star player to be signed by head coach Rick Barnes.
