Kentucky woman and deputy on motorcycle killed in crash near Elizabethtown

ELIZABETHTOWN, Ky. ( FOX 56 ) — An investigation is underway by the Kentucky State Police after a fatal two-vehicle crash.

Authorities said that at 8:07 p.m. on Sunday, a state trooper was on patrol when he came to a collision that had occurred at the intersection of the U.S. Highway 31W bypass and the Western Kentucky Parkway ramp.

KSP said that a motorcycle driven by off-duty Hardin County Deputy Billy Edwards was hit by a Buick Envista driven by Cameron Harris, 20. Harris tried to make a sharp right turn onto the ramp and he collided with the motorcycle, which made Edwards lose control and drive into the shoulder ramp. Both Edwards and his passenger, Kathy Edwards, 58, were ejected from the motorcycle.

According to KSP, the pair suffered “fatal wounds.”

Kathy was pronounced dead at the scene by the Hardin County Coroner’s Office. Harris and his passenger were reportedly unharmed.

“Deputy Billy Edwards and his wife Kathy were tragically killed in a traffic accident in Elizabethtown. Deputy Edwards was 24-year veteran of the Elizabethtown Police Department and he was currently a school resource officer for the Hardin County Sheriff’s Office,” the sheriff’s office said. “Please keep Billy and Kathy’s family, their friends and the community in your thoughts and prayers.”
