Northern Forest Canoe Trail makes improvements to Valcour Island trails
Peru, NY – A multi-year effort to restore camping and paddling infrastructure on Lake Champlain’s historic Valcour Island continued this summer, with stewardship crews rebuilding a boardwalk along a cross-island hiking trail. The work was performed by the Northern Forest Canoe Trail (NFCT) stewardship crew and community volunteers, in partnership with the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC) and with support from a Lake Champlain Basin Program grant. The NFCT’s stewardship crew consists of professional staff and three interns.
Cambridge's Maddy Enright crowned Queen of Queens at OVAC game halftime
Ohio County, W.Va. — The crowning of the Queen of Queens took place Saturday night at halftime of the Rudy Mumley OVAC All-Star football game. This year's winner was Maddy Enright of Cambridge High School. She was one of 23 contestants who performed Thursday night at the Queen of Queen pageant.
Hometown Jockey wins the Lake George Stakes
Saratoga Springs, NY (WRGB) — In the Lake George Stakes, Saratoga jockey Dylan Davis had a chance to reign victorious. Riding his horse Pounce, Davis faced a tough challenge as Pounce wasn't even in the top four with a quarter of a mile to go. In the final stretch, the horse trained by Mark Casse surged ahead and claimed victory, winning by three-quarters of a length.
