(FOX40.COM) — A sobriety/driver’s license checkpoint will be held in Sacramento County on Friday, according to the Elk Grove Police Department.

Police said the checkpoint will be held from 7 p.m. to 3 a.m. within Elk Grove’s city limits, but a specific location was not announced.

“The checkpoint will focus on removing impaired drivers and unlicensed drivers from the roadways,” police said. “Educational materials covering the dangers of driving under the influence will also be handed out to drivers.”

CHP arrest nearly 1,600 people and issue 30,000 citations over Fourth of July weekend

The checkpoint comes about two weeks after the California Highway Patrol held a Maximum Enforcement Period in the state for the Fourth of July holiday. During that period, CHP said over 1,300 DUI-related arrests were made.

“Even when it’s not a Maximum Enforcement Period, let’s continue to work together to make responsible choices,” CHP said.

The checkpoint in Elk Grove is funded by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety (Cal OTS).
