    Elk River police report: Vehicle windows broken, purses stolen at Oak Knoll Park

    Two vehicles were broken into at Oak Knoll Park in Elk River recently.

    Both thefts were reported on May 4.

    In one case, a passenger side rear door window was broken and suspects took a purse from the locked vehicle. The suspects used the victim’s credit card at Walmart in Elk River, charging $1,009.88. Images from Walmart showed two suspects who appeared to be male wearing face masks. Total estimated loss including the Walmart charge is $3,890, broken down as follows: damaged window, at least $200; purse, $1,300; wallet, $1,072; sunglasses $58; and $250 in cash, according to the police report.

    In the other case, the front driver side window was broken and a purse/wallet was stolen from under the front seat. Suspects attempted to use the victim’s credit card at Walmart in Elk River, but it was declined, according to the police report.

    Man claims he chased vehicle on foot, found it crashed

    Police were called to the intersection of Line Avenue and Twin Lakes Road at approximately 12:30 p.m. May 2 for a report of a stolen vehicle. When police arrived, they made contact with a 20-year-old Elk River man, who claimed he chased the vehicle on foot and found it crashed. Officers determined that the man was driving and crashed. He was taken into custody for DWI.

    Erratic driving ends in DWI for driver

    Police arrested a 45-year-old Elk River man after responding to a report of a vehicle driving erratically at 193rd Avenue and Evans Street in Elk River at around 7 p.m. May 1.

    Officers located the vehicle near the registered owner’s home and attempted a traffic stop. The vehicle continued to drive up the road and around the block, before making an illegal U-turn and fleeing back to the registered owner’s home and stopping in the driveway, according to the police report.

    The driver was arrested for DWI. He allegedly admitted to using cocaine, according to the police report.

    The same suspect reportedly caused more than $300 in estimated damages after driving through a yard and flower beds in the 19400 block of Irving Circle in Elk River, destroying a mailbox.

    Fraud instances reported to police

    Instances of fraud have been reported to the Elk River Police Department recently. Here’s a rundown.

    • On May 4, officers took a report of a possible fraud. A 39-year-old Zimmerman woman sent $550 in Apple Pay cards to a Facebook company for a deposit for a property. It was later learned that the Facebook user did not own property. No refund was obtained.

    • A 66-year-old Elk River woman contacted police May 3 to report receiving a message on her computer saying there was an issue and asking her to provide information to clear it up; she provided name information, credit card company, bank names and how much money was in the accounts. She did not provide any account numbers or Social Security information. She contacted all her financial institutions and they locked her accounts. The victim is not out any money. Police documented the incident and provided her links to an identity theft packet and the Internet Crime Complaint Center or IC3, which is run by the FBI and is the nation’s central hub for reporting cyber crime.

    Man arrested for domestic assault

    Police arrested a 42-year-old Crystal man after he reportedly assaulted his ex-girlfriend and left the home in Elk River. Police were called at 9:39 p.m. May 2. When they responded to the area, they located the suspect and his vehicle and stopped the vehicle. The suspect was arrested for domestic assault and transported to jail. The victim had marks on her neck and hand, according to the police report.
