Sherburne County’s veterans service officer retired May 24, but not before county commissioners proclaimed that day “Bruce Price Day” in his honor.

Commissioners approved the designation at the May 21 County Board meeting, as Price and others watched from the audience at the Sherburne County Government Center in Elk River.

Price was honored at the meeting by a representative from Congressman Tom Emmer’s office as well. Stacy Morse, district director for the congressman, presented Price with a flag that had flown over the U.S. Capitol.

Morse also read information about Price that Emmer had put into the congressional record.

Morse said Price, as a veterans service officer, has worked on behalf of veterans and their families, helping to ensure they receive the benefits and care they have earned.

Price’s compassion and advocacy have made a lasting impact on the lives of countless veterans, she said. He and his team see 3,000 individuals and field more than 20,000 calls from veterans every year.

“Bruce is a hero,” Morse said. “... He has been an incredible friend to the veterans and families of Sherburne County, and to our office.”

Price retired after more than 40 years of service, including 24 years of active duty service in the U.S. Army and 10 years as Sherburne County veterans service officer.

He said it’s been an honor and a pleasure and that his staff has been great.

Price said he will miss the veterans, the families and the connections that have been made.

“It is bittersweet,” he said of his retirement.
