    Elk River police report: At crash site, diesel was ‘pouring on the road’; tow truck stolen; and handgun is taken from vehicle

    Police were called to a crash involving a semi and a SUV on June 13 at Highway 10 and Highway 169 in Elk River.

    Elk River officers assisted the Minnesota State Patrol and directed traffic. A large amount of diesel fuel was “pouring on the road” and westbound Highway 10 was shut down, according to the police report.

    The crash happened just after 1:30 p.m. as a semi truck/trailer was westbound on Highway 10 and a Chevrolet Equinox was merging from southbound Highway 169 to westbound Highway 10. The two vehicles collided at the bottom of the ramp, according to the State Patrol.

    Two people in the Equinox sustained injuries the State Patrol said were non-life threatening.

    Tow truck reported stolen from business

    A tow truck was reported stolen from the 9000 block of Highway 10 in Elk River on an unknown date; police were alerted on June 15.

    The theft occurred at DN Auto Sales LLC, according to Elk River Police Capt. Joe Gacke.

    Police determined that the truck had been parked near a detached storage building in Ramsey. The complainant was given a phone number to contact Anoka County dispatch, according to the police report.

    Handgun stolen from vehicle

    A handgun was reported stolen from a vehicle in Elk River.

    Police were called to the 12000 block of 195th Avenue on June 17 regarding the theft report. The victim said someone entered his unlocked vehicle and took the handgun and $250 in cash.

    Vehicle hits light pole, leaves scene

    A vehicle struck a light pole in the center median at Johnson Street and 175th Court in Elk River, causing the pole to fall over, shortly after 11 p.m. June 15. The vehicle left the area after the crash.

    Elk River Municipal Utilities removed the pole and secured the loose wires.

    Tools stolen

    Several tools were reported stolen from an unlocked vehicle, which was parked in a dirt parking area near Massmann Geothermal, 9000 block Highway 10, Elk River.

    The theft was reported to police on June 17.

    DWI for driver who hit another vehicle

    A 31-year-old Buffalo woman was arrested for DWI after hitting a vehicle.

    Police initially responded to a traffic complaint shortly before 10:30 p.m. June 13 on eastbound Highway 10, just outside Elk River. The caller said a white Ford SUV had gone into the ditch, exited the ditch and then continued on in an erratic fashion.

    A short time later, a second caller reported that a vehicle of the same description had rear-ended her truck at Highway 10 and Proctor Avenue in Elk River. Police made contact with the female driver of the SUV. The Minnesota State Patrol then arrived on the scene and took over the investigation.

    Elk River police remained on the scene to assist with three small children who were in the arrested party’s vehicle. Elk River officers assisted the State Patrol with watching the children at the police department until they were able to locate family members to retrieve them, according to the police report.

    Man says he drank hand sanitizer

    Police responded to the 10800 block of 181st Lane in Elk River shortly after 10 p.m. June 13 after a probation officer reported that a person’s monitor showed him to be consuming alcohol at his home. The probation officer asked an officer to respond. Police arrived and made contact with the 20-year-old man, who said he had been drinking hand sanitizer. The man was taken into custody without incident and transported to the jail.

    Golf carts stolen

    Two golf carts were reported stolen in the 200 block of Carson Street in Elk River.

    The theft was reported to police on June 13.

    DWI arrest

    Police arrested a 29-year-old Elk River resident for DWI after responding to a one-vehicle crash near Meadowvale Road and 192nd Avenue in Elk River at around 3 a.m. June 13. The vehicle had gone off the road the hit a light pole.

    The driver was located at a home.
