Search ongoing for father missing in the Mississippi River

Officials are searching for a missing father who helped rescue two children from the Mississippi River in Elk River on Friday.

At around 11:45 a.m., Sherburne County Sheriff's Office received a report of multiple people struggling in the water at Rivers Edge Commons, where a man and two children had been swimming on the sandbar.

The man was able to grab onto one of the children and get her to the sandbar. He then jumped back in and pushed the other child to shore before disappearing under the water.

One of the children identified the man as their father. The search for him is currently ongoing.
