Elkin City Schools were put on lockdown for about 40 minutes Tuesday afternoon when a city resident reported a “suspicious” person near the high school.

“Law enforcement responded immediately,” the school system posted on its Facebook page.

Shortly after the lockdown, school officials posted that both the city’s high school and middle school had been placed on lockdown. While the elementary school was not initially included on the Facebook posting, a parent with a student at the elementary school said she received a text as part of a school texting group, stating the elementary school was on lockdown as well.

Ultimately, law enforcement determined there was no danger to any of the schools.

“All Elkin City Schools have been cleared from lock down at this time and the regular school day has resumed,” the system posted shortly before 3 p.m. “At no time were students in harm or danger and no threats were found.”
