    West Virginia police officer found dead in vehicle with self-inflicted gunshot wound

    ELKINS, WV (LOOTPRESS) – UPDATE 6/15/24: The Elkins Police Department has confirmed that one of its officers was found dead with a self-inflicted gunshot wound on Friday, June 14, 2024.

    ORIGINAL STORY: A West Virginia police officer is dead after being found in a vehicle with a gunshot wound.

    According to the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office, on Friday, June 14, 2024, at approximately 11:36 AM, Deputy R.C. Hebb responded to the Allegheny Highway near Eagles Nest Road on 33 East outside of Elkins for a suspicious vehicle call.

    While Hebb was en route, a caller advised the vehicle appeared to have a window that appeared to have been shot out.

    Once on scene Deputy Hebb approached and discovered the victim with what appeared to be an apparent gunshot wound.

    EMS units and Deputies S.D. Kyle and S.R. Davis arrived to assist. The victim did not survive.

    This incident is under investigation by the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office, The Mountain Region Drug and Violent Crime Task Force and the West Virginia State Police Crime Scene Team.

    “The Randolph County Sheriff’s Office would like to express our sincere sympathy, condolences and prayers to the family and friends of our lost brother and to the Elkins Police Department during this tragic time,” the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.
