ELKINS, WV (LOOTPRESS) – One man has been arrested on drug charges following a traffic stop.

According to the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office (RCSO), 52-year-old Scott Dale Reckart was arrested on Tuesday afternoon following a routine traffic stop conducted by Deputy J. Wolfe of the RCSO.

The incident occurred around 2:55 PM near Kennedy Street and North Randolph Avenue in Elkins.

Deputy Wolfe noticed Reckart’s gold Jeep Liberty traveling northbound with an expired registration sticker.

Upon initiating a traffic stop, Reckart briefly attempted to evade the officer but eventually pulled over on Charles Street.

During the stop, Deputy Wolfe detected the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle.

Reckart, who initially claimed his wife possessed a medical marijuana card, was asked to exit the vehicle.

Upon patting down Reckart, Deputy Wolfe discovered a small container with marijuana and a smoking device in his right cargo pocket.

A further search of the vehicle by Deputy Wolfe, with the assistance of Deputy Elbon, revealed a pouch with a THC gummy and a Christmas cookie container filled with marijuana.

Additionally, four black buckets containing a total of 24.4 ounces of marijuana buds, a black garbage bag with 15.42 ounces of trimmed marijuana plants, and a pair of trimming shears were found. Each bucket weighed 12.2 ounces.

Reckart admitted to obtaining the marijuana from an unidentified individual.

The total weight of the seized marijuana was 3.49 pounds.

Due to the quantity and the presence of trimming equipment, it is believed that Reckart intended to distribute the marijuana, according to the RCSO.

Reckart was transported to the Tygart Valley Regional Jail and is awaiting arraignment by the Randolph County Magistrate.

He faces charges of possession with intent to distribute.
