OCEAN CITY — Among all the activities, presentations and dinners, Cecil County town representatives attending the annual Maryland Municipal League Summer Conference also celebrated.

MML’s Municipal Officials Hall of Fame inductees included two Elkton Town Commissioners; Jean Broomell and Charles Givens.

The Hall of Fame distinction is given to current or former elected officials with at least 20 years of services. It was noted during the ceremony that there are now 301 members of that group representing 6,536 years of municipal service.

Rising Sun Mayor Travis Marion will represent District 10 on the Board of Directors, which covers Cecil and Harford counties, for MML.

Marion was also named president of the Maryland Mayor’s Association. In a social media post announcing his election to represent all incorporated towns in the state, Marion noted he’s come a long way.

“Over a decade ago I entered MMA and the youngest elected mayor and the state,” he said in his post. “There were times, however, when I wasn’t always welcomed into every room or given a voice at every table; primarily because of my age.”

The experience has made him more determined to advocate for the marginalized.

“I am excited to work hard to support our municipalities and ensure that every mayor has a voice and is welcome in any room or table they choose,” Marion said.
