    Elkton Little League wins District 5 seniors baseball championship

    RISING SUN — Elkton Little League secured its spot in the state tournament on Friday evening after capturing a District 5 seniors baseball championship. Elkton advances to the state tournament hosted at Berlin Little League. The state championship will begin July 6.

    Below is a recap of the two-day District 5 seniors baseball championship games.

    Game 1 Chesapeake City 14, Elkton 9

    Chesapeake City combined for 11 runs in the second, third and fourth innings to hold an 11-4 lead through four innings of play. Chase Holderer finished with four RBIs, while Evan Tuohey and Drayden Ash each finished with two RBIs. Colton Leitgeb, Braden Brown and Richie Zaun each drove in a run. Ash and C.J. Ball combined for seven strikeouts in seven innings of work from the mound.

    Elkton’s Daymien Phillips, Tucker Rando, Cole Minsker, Jacob Leffew, Brayden Muller and Brayden Jones each finished with an RBI.

    Game 2 Elkton 15, Chesapeake City 3

    Elkton rebounded from its game one defeat with a 12-run win on Friday night to advance to the state tournament. Elkton finished with four multi-run innings to secure the victory. Jacob Leffew went 3-for-4 at the plate with three RBIs. Daymien Phillips, J.J. Todd and Brayden Jones each finished with multiple RBIs for Elkton. On the mound, Phillips and Brayden Muller combined for 11 strikeouts in six innings of work.
