DFPA TACKLES FIRES IN ELKTON, CAMAS VALLEY AREAS
Crews with the Douglas Forest Protective Association dealt with fires in the Elkton and Camas Valley areas on Friday evening and Saturday morning. Public Information Officer Rachel Pope said Friday just after 7:15 p.m. firefighters from DFPA and several other agencies responded to a reported barn fire near the 6000 block of Hedden Road near Elkton. Pope said upon arrival, the barn and a haystack about 15 feet high by nine bales wide were fully engulfed. Firefighters took immediate action, with structural resources tackling the barn, and DFPA and the Coos Forest Protective Association tackling the forward spread of the fire from the haystack and surrounding fuels.
TEEN DIES IN SUV VERSUS MOTORCYCLE ACCIDENT
A teen from Umpqua died in an SUV versus motorcycle accident Wednesday afternoon. A Douglas County Sheriff’s Office report said at 2:15 p.m. the SUV driver was headed west on Garden Valley Road when she made a left-hand turn into River Forks Market, near the intersection with Curry Road. The vehicle made the turn in front of the motorcyclist, who was driving east on a street bike at a high rate of speed.
YONCALLA MAN CITED FOR HIT AND RUN
A Yoncalla man was cited after a hit and run incident on Wednesday afternoon. A Douglas County Sheriff’s Office report said at 4:15 p.m. a vehicle drove off the roadway in the 500 block of Melrose Road, at the former Kruse Farms location. It sideswiped a telephone pole causing it to sheer off from the bottom. The male driver then left the location.
